Ataribox, The new Atari will be running on Linux and AMD, and it will cost about $300. "The Ataribox is coming! Amd RX tweeted and some other news reported that The new Atari that is the revive of the old classic version of Atari is going to be AMD based PC like and running on Linux. In last June, Atari announced that  "back in the hardware business" with the announcement of the Ataribox a "retro-styled PC tech-based console". In one month Atari crowdfunded the project, and now we have some hard facts on cost too, and its $300.

AMD had been the custom processors for video game consoles before, like Sony and Microsoft. Nvidia started growing in this market when took the Nintendo tegra project. Nintendo decided to use a custom Tegra processor to power its latest Switch console. And Nintendo's "Switch" has been costly for AMD. Nintendo has hit a home run with the Switch. The console has outsold both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One four times in the past six months in the U.S but its is not limited to US Switch sales have been very successful in Japan, selling over 1.5 million in just 26 weeks, a figure that the PS4 took 69 weeks to hit.

Ataribox Release Date is expected to be in spring 2018

Atari choose to go with indiegogo for the crowdfund raising:

Atari has decided to make it back to the console gaming hardware with the Ataribox console in 2017, and it has started with AMD's custom processor and Radeon graphics chip to power the new atari device. Now, Atari is going to make its new console a success started by the aggressive price range of $249-$299.
